Recently, I’ve been re-reading and reading some new books, some fictional and some non-fictional. I love reading and believe it or not, there is peace in reading a book, especially a fictional one since your brain transports you to another world and be carefree. There’s something magical about getting lost in the intricacies of an author’s imagination and seeing the world through the characters’ eyes. But since this is a Chic & Savvy blog, we are not here to talk about fictional books, at least not yet. Instead, let’s focus on the incredible non-fictional works that have been gracing my bookshelf. Some of the books I have been loving lately you might have heard about them. They span a range of genres from self-help and personal development to biographies and historical accounts, each offering unique insights and valuable knowledge. But they have changed my life for the better. These books have not only provided me with new perspectives but also practical advice that I have implemented in my daily routines. Some I’m even re-reading because it’s that good. Re-reading allows me to delve deeper into the concepts and ideas, solidifying my understanding and sometimes discovering nuances I missed the first time.

Think Like A Monk By Jay Shetty

If you don’t know who Jay Shetty is, please go on Instagram and follow this man. Jay used to be a monk after college and spent years immersed in the practices and teachings of monastic life. Now, he is no longer a monk but still practices many of the disciplines he learned during that time. His transformative journey and insights are shared widely, offering valuable lessons on mindfulness and purposeful living. In his book, “Think Like a Monk,” Jay teaches you how to cultivate the mindset and habits of a monk, bringing ancient wisdom into modern life. The book is thoughtfully divided into three parts. Part 1 is about letting go of identity, negativity, fear, and setting intentions, guiding you toward a state of clarity and peace. Part 2 focuses on growth, covering areas such as finding your purpose, building a routine, cultivating a mindful mindset, and managing the ego to achieve inner harmony. Part 3 emphasizes the importance of giving, exploring themes like gratitude, nurturing relationships, and serving others. I’ve admired Jay Shetty for some time now, so when he announced this book, I bought it immediately. I’ve read it thoroughly and am currently re-reading it to deepen my understanding and incorporate more of his teachings into my daily life.

Girl Code By Cara Awill

Girl Code is the reason I started blogging back in 2015 when I launched my first blog site The Everyday Woman. This book is all about unlocking the secrets to success, sanity, and happiness. It starts with Cara Alwill Leyba explaining her journey at MTV and how she climbed the ladder to become successful. Cara provides an intimate look into the challenges she faced and the strategies she employed to overcome them, offering invaluable advice for budding entrepreneurs and dreamers alike. Now Cara is a renowned life coach, author, and motivational speaker. She has also written other amazing books such as “Like She Owns The Place” and “Striped,” the latter of which is a collection of powerful poetry that resonates with many women. Girl Code is not your typical girl code book; it delves into the often-overlooked issue of how females sometimes attack other women over small things instead of supporting and uplifting each other. Cara emphasizes the importance of believing in yourself and encourages women to take the leap they have always wanted to make. She highlights the significance of stopping the cycle of BS and proactively doing things that contribute to real progress. By sharing her own experiences and insights, Cara inspires readers to pursue their dreams relentlessly and foster a community of empowerment and mutual support among women.

The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle

The holy grail of all books. This book is mind-blowing, I have yet to finish it but I am halfway there. The Power of Now is all about telling your brain to shut up and focus on the now. Not what happened 5 minutes ago or what will happen in the next 30 minutes. You are focusing on the moment that is now. He teaches you that you are not your mind, and your mind doesn’t control you. You control it. I know this is something that seems hard to do for so many people, but it is possible. This book is packed with practical advice and transformative insights that can truly change the way you perceive life. It’s time to start focusing on the now, instead of being constantly bogged down by worries about the future or regrets about the past. The author uses a blend of philosophical wisdom and practical tips to help you anchor yourself in the present moment, making it an indispensable guide for anyone seeking more peace and clarity in their life.

The Four Agreements by Miguel Ruiz

This book is a short book but very powerful. The book is laid out by the four agreements which are:

  • “Be impeccable with your word”
  • “Do not take anything personally”
  • “Do not make assumptions”
  • “Always do your best”

You will learn that your words are magic and they can cast a spell on people without you knowing it. You will also learn that nothing that is being said to you has personal meaning just because someone feels some type of way about you or how you do things, that is their problem and not yours. Also, you will learn about not making assumptions and always doing your best. This book is jam-packed with a lot of good information and you can finish it and just a few of yours or even in 4 days if you want to read a chapter a day.

Atomic Habits By James Clear

I just recently got this book as a birthday present from my boyfriend since he knew I wanted it. I’m still in chapter 1 of the book, but it has already captivated my attention and sparked my curiosity. The book immediately delves into intriguing concepts that challenge conventional wisdom, and chapter 1 alone has my mind going crazy. Instead of merely focusing on setting goals, the author emphasizes the importance of building a system that works for you, which is a refreshing approach. He presents the idea that being 1% better every day for a year can lead to remarkable improvement, or conversely, doing 1% worse each day can lead to a gradual decline. This principle of incremental progress has really resonated with me, making me reflect on my own daily habits. Alongside this, the author shares various techniques and strategies to implement this system, diving into the psychology of habit formation and the science behind sustained progress. The book is packed with practical advice and actionable steps, making it a valuable guide for anyone looking to achieve long-term success. With so much more to uncover, I am eager to continue reading and will make sure to update you all more as I keep exploring its transformative insights.

Buy Yourself The Damn Flowers By Tam Kaur

Tam Kaur is an icon in my opinion. Following her from one of her YouTube videos to now, I have seen her growth and transformation into an influential figure. I admire this young woman who is inspiring and loving to so many people, touching lives with her genuine and heartfelt messages. What I love about her book is that she emphasizes the importance of self-care, explaining why you should prioritize yourself and not others. She talks about the significance of doing things that make you happy, encouraging readers to pursue their passions and dreams without guilt. I’ve been listening to this book on Audible, and her insights have resonated deeply with me, reinforcing the idea that taking care of oneself is not selfish but necessary. Her thoughtful reflections and practical advice have been a guiding light, making a profound impact on my outlook and daily practices.
